A few dates to remember:
Private Kindergarten Graduation: June 19th-11:30 @ B.A.S.E
End of the Year Spectacular: June 23rd-6:00 @ Thayer Academy
Last day of School: June 26th
Over the past few weeks we have watched tiny caterpillars grow into large caterpillar, form chrysalis, and finally hatch into beautiful butterflies. We were so excited to watch this transformation, but even more excited today when we were able to carefully hold the butterflies as they were released into their natural environment. Please see the wonderful pictures below.

We had so much fun this week playing out in the snow. The snowdrifts made a nice little hill for the children to go sledding down. We also used spray bottles filled with water and food coloring to paint in the snow.
We finally made it to the 100th day of school! We had a fun filled day with many math activities. We started our day off with morning meeting and adding our 100th straw. The class was so excited to create a bundle of 100! We then enjoyed sharing our 100th day projects. It was interesting to see the different ways the children represented the number 100. We continued our day by doing 100 exercises! The children thought it would take all day, but when we broke it up into 10 repetitions of 10 different exercises it only took us 20 minutes! We had fun on a scavenger hunt for 100 numbers before lunch. In the afternoon we created a yummy snack mix with 100 pieces of food. The children made groups of 10 with each type of snack then added them to a bag counting by 10s. We ended our 100th day by writing 100 words as a class. Be sure to check out our list of words hung up outside of the classroom. Below are some pictures from our 100th day fun. Enjoy!
Can you believe all the snow we have? After the two big storms we have had the class could not believe how much snow was on the playground. We decided to measure the snow so we could keep track if we get any more this winter. First we measured the snow (Ms. Jeanmarie walked out back with her snow boots and a measuring stick), then we took turns measuring each child to see if the snow this year becomes taller than any of them. We created a chart showing the difference between the snow and the children. So far the children are all taller than the snow, but not by much! Over the next few months we are excited to have Mr. Toomey interning in our class. He will be here on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30-2:30. The children enjoyed listening to a made up story by Mr. Toomey on his first day here. They are very excited to hear more of his interesting stories.
Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays. We are back into the swing of things here in Private Kindergarten. We will be learning the rest of the letters and adding new sight words to our word wall weekly. We also have many fun stories about the winter and snow that we will be reading. Many of our activities and writings will also be based off these stories.
We are only 23 days away from the 100th day of school! (That is if we have no snow days!) We have already started to talk about this day as a class. More information will follow as we get closer, but the day will be filled with many fun activities! It is one of my favorite days of the year! With the cold weather here, please be sure your child has appropriate clothing for outside. We will still try to get out for recess twice a day even if it is only for a few minutes. Thank you to everyone for the generous donations of classroom supplies. We have already been able to make blue playdoh and have peppermint smelling fizz while mixing vinegar and baking soda! We are looking forward to using the shaving cream for both handwriting practice on the table as well as painting.(When mixed with glue it makes a puffy, shiny substance to paint with.) Below you will find pictures that were taken before the holiday break. We had lots of fun doing many art activities and projects. December already? Where is the year going? Can you believe we have already been in school 62 days! Even with the excitement of the holidays, the children have been working hard in Private Kindergarten. Before thanksgiving, we took a little break from homework and learning new letters to focus on social and emotional development. We had fun acting out skits that showed kind behavior and unkind behavior. We then discussed ways to include others and the importance of using our words to solve problems with others. The day before thanksgiving we had fun using the water table and big paints. We pretended a gallon of water was a turkey and we took turns "basting the turkey"
During the next few weeks, we will have fun learning about different holidays and celebrations that happen in the month of December. Below you will find some pictures of the fun and learning that has been happening in our class. Enjoy! The children have been having a blast with Boks-so much that we have started doing it 3 days a week instead of only 1! We now go to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:30 to participate in fitness activities. You may wonder what exactly we do at Boks. We always start out by stretching. Next we run laps around the gym for the duration of a song. During this time, the children run at there own pace, slowing down if they need too, but continue to move during the entire song. After the song we focus on a skills that works a part of the body and then incorporate that into an activity. We finish Boks with a running game such as Mirror Tag. Here is an example of a Boks activity called Over, Under. The children take turns passing a ball over their head or under their legs then run to the end of the line. This activity was a big hit!!
We had a great week leading up to Halloween. We read some Halloween stories, did some fun art activities, and enjoyed a fun celebration! One of our art activities was creating a jack-o-lantern. The children were each given one piece of orange paper and one piece of black paper, but no tracers. They did an amazing job creating individual jack-o-lanterns by tracing and cutting their own shapes. |
